The Beatles

In 1962 Ringo Starr joined a Liverpool based band whose members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison. These four young men from Liverpool went on to be one of the bands that most represents the sounds of the swinging sixties in the UK and America as well as much of the rest of the world. The 1960s offered music that would become a voice for its youth and the young generations. 1960s pop, rock and psychadelia united fans into frenzies, with screaming young female fans hysterical from the earliest of the Beatles concerts, to 60s pyschadelia inspired by love and drugs.

The success of the Beatles was phenomenal as the boys from humble beginnings in Liverpool, UK went on to make musical history. The Beatles produced over twelve original studio albums, the first being Please Please Me (1963), to their last album Let It Be (1970). The list of singles is exhaustive, including such well known hits as Can’t Buy Me Love, She Loves You, Taxman, Strawberry Fields Forever to name but a few. The band also starred in five films between 1964 and 1970, their debut being A Hard Day’s Night.

The Beatle's music - both albums and singles dominated the UK and US charts as well as topping charts and making music history around the globe, many of which are yet to be rivalled by any performer.

The Beatles Time Line Biography

1962 - Love Me Do Enters the UK music charts and reaches number 17. A few months later The Beatles reache number two in the UK music chart with Please please Me

1963 was a breakthrough year for the Beatles in the USA. Brian Epstein, their manager, secured The Beatles a spot on The Ed Sullivan Show (showing recording of the band). Within weeks I Want To Hold Your hand' was a hit single for the Beatles in the USA.

1964 The beatles first trip to the USA. Thousands of fans cheer them off, Ringo, John, Paul and George play their music live on the Ed Sullivan Show.

1965 The beatles play a concert to over 50,000 fans in New York. Albums Rubber Soul and Help! are both released.

1966-1967 The Beatles play their last concert and decide to concentrate on recording. John Lennon meets Yoko Ono for the first time at an art gallery in London, UKBrian Epstein dies in 1967 of a reported overdose. The Beatle's Sgt pepper's Loney Hearts Club Band album is released in 1967.

1968 Divisions between the band start to form, tensions are high.

1969 Abbey Road is the final album to be recorded by the Beatles. In September 20th, John Lennon announces he is leaving the group.

1970 Paul McCartney officially announces the break up of the Beatles to the public.
