Jean Harlow Biography

Born 3rd March 1911, USA
Died 7th June 1937

Jean Harlow has been heralded as Hollywood’s original bombshell, paving the way for stars such as Marilyn Monroe (who reportedly found inspiration in Harlow).

Harlow married at a fairly young age to a young businessman, who at twenty three was five years her elder. The marriage was an adventurous affair, Harlow ran away from home to marry her young love. The marriage though, was short lived and in 1929, two years after the ceremony, Harlow divorced her husband. After this, Harlow began to concentrate on searching out movie roles with more intensity (she had already had minor roles in several productions).

Fame came to Jean Harlow in 1930, when she hit the screens in Hell’s Angels, an immediate box office success. Following this, Harlow starred in a movie whose title is much associated with her sizzling looks, Platinum Blonde.

Whilst her career blossomed, Harlow suffered distress in her personal life. Her second husband committed suicide whilst Harlow was filming Red Dust with Clark Gable (her co star in many of her best loved movies). Production however, went on and the movie was completed.

Harlow did marry for a third time, to cinematographer Harold Rosson.

In 1937, Harlow began filming with Gable once more for the movie Saratoga. With devastating consequences, Jean Harlow fell ill from uremic poisoning and died just days after collapsing on set during filming.

She was aged just twenty six.
