Fred Astaire biography

Remembered foremost for his performances alongside Ginger Rogers, Astaire is the all-dancing, all-singing King of Hollywood. Fred arrived in Hollywood in the 1930s and gained a supporting role in Flying Down to Rio (1933), where he and Ginger Rogers performed one dance. After this, the two became firm movie dance partners and starred in a string of nine musicals.

Astaire’s success as a dancer was such that he reportedly insured his legs for tens of thousands of dollars, most reports putting the figure at $75,000 a leg.
